Club Penguin is an extremely popular MMPORG game (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) normally known as a “virtual world”. Club Penguin has a wide range of games, players, and fun activities.
Club Penguin was originally created by New Horizon Interactive, in 2005. After beta testing, Club Penguin was released to the public in October 24, 2005. It did not take long for Club Penguin to become extremely popular.
Club Penguin has over 150,000,000 (150 million) users, from all around the world.
After free memberships to the testers of Club Penguin, a paid membership system was released. With a ‘membership’, you could access premium features such as buying clothes, igloo items, ‘puffles’, ect – it would also give you a badge on your Club Penguin playercard.
In August 2007, Club Penguin was purchased by The Walt Disney Company – often referred to as Disney – for 350,000 ,000 dollars. Club Penguin was designed for the ages 6-14 years – although several younger/older users play this. Club Penguin is completely safe for Children, with the “Ultimate Safe Chat” feature, and the censor system. Pedophile-like or rude messages will not go through, and the user will be kicked/banned by a ‘secret’ moderator at the Club Penguin HQ.
Despite the major security Club Penguin uses, many users have been able to “cheat”; by programming flash “trainers” for the game, or using a Winsock Packet Editor. Although, Club Penguin has changed their load.swf path – and nobody knows it anymore, so nobody can load the movie of Club Penguin in their “trainer”. Club Penguin moderators can now also spot hackers.
2005: 15,000 users.
2006: 1.4 – 2.6 million
2007: 3.9 million
When Disney purchased Club Penguin, the game had 12 million users – 700,000 of which were ‘members’, which means they paid Disney Club Penguin for their premium features.
In September 2006, the first “Club Penguin Cheats” site was released by a Club Penguin user named Paintboy100. Club Penguin cheats website are not for “cheating”, they are websites like this giving walkthroughs, guides, and information about the MMPORG game Club Penguin. Sadly, Paintboy100′s website is no longer the most popular Club Penguin website – it is the 3rd most popular after “Club Penguin Gang” and “Club Penguin CP”.
The first “Club Penguin army” was ACP, which stands for Army of Club Penguin. The apparent point of these Club Penguin armies is to protect Club Penguin from bad penguins and other armies which are “evil”.
Club Penguin players can express their emotions by clicking one of the emoticons on the emote button.
Here is a picture of me (Coolpool79) doing the happy emote:
Here is the list of emotes (in-game)
There are also some secret emotes which are not displayed on this list – such as the “tooting” emote (ET), and the puffle emote (EP). Those are the most popular secret emotes.
Club Penguin release new clothing catalogs, also known as Penguin Style every month – where users with a paid membership can buy clothes for their Penguin. In every penguin style, there are “cheats” – which are hidden secret items.
To buy items, you must earn coins by playing games. Users often “cheat” coins with a “money maker”. I’m afraid to say that there’s a lot of cheating going on in Club Penguin that the staff don’t know about. I’ve often contacted the Club Penguin support and informed them about this, but I was not believed.
Users can choose items to wear via their “Inventory” – which lists every item/pin/background they have. “Pins” are a picture, like a badge, on the background behind their Penguin. Users can find and collect pins in rooms where they are hidden, it will be added to their inventory. The first ever pin was the “Shamrock”, often referred to as the “Clover pin”
Puffles can be brought at the Pet Shop in the Plaza of Club Penguin. Puffles are small, fluffy animals that are kept as a pet by a Penguin. You can feed, bath, walk, and lot’s more with your Puffle.
You can play games with certain puffles, which will earn you more coins, so you can buy more items. My personal favourite Puffle is the Blue puffle, It’s my favourite colour and it has a very similar personality to me!
Club Penguin has a newspaper, where you can read the latest news, sneak peeks, and what’s up-coming in the island of Club Penguin. Users of Club Penguin can submit jokes, comics, and ask “Aunt Arctic“, a mascot on Club Penguin a question.
The “mascots” visit Club Penguin at least once a year, for certain “parties”. The mascots consist of Aunt Arctic, Gary, Penguin Band (PB), Cadence, Sensei (Normal, Water, Fire, and snow), and Rookie.
“Rockhopper” is the most popular, visits the most, and is the most easy to find. The mascots are often referred to as “famous” penguins. Some users think Club Penguin bloggers/vloggers are “famous”, but that is their choice.
Club Penguin even have their own Nintendo DS game and Nintendo Wii game.
The Club Penguin : Elite Penguin Force Nintendo DS game was released by Disney in November 25, 2008. The players of this game solve mysteries around the island of Club Penguin – in the first mission, he/she becomes an Elite Penguin force members (an upgrade from the Penguin Secret Agents – PSA)
Club Penguin : Herbert’s Revenge the 2nd Club Penguin Nintendo DS game was released in May 2010, and the fact that it was going to be created was announced in February 2010. Once the game is purchased, the player of the game (he/she) can upload coins to their online Clubpenguin.com account via Wifi, from the games they’ve played on the DS
Both games also come with a code to unlock some items on their Clubpenguin.com account.
Many fans of Club Penguin have made Club Penguin websites, and YouTube channels. Penguins have made films and TV shows on several video-sharing websites, using Club Penguin. Click here to visit my Club Penguin YouTube channel. There are even whole NETWORKS of the “Club Penguin video industry”.
There are also several Club Penguin YouTube/Machinima partners.
The most subscribed Club Penguin YouTube channel is “CpBroadcast” – a channel that provides “comedy” videos on Club Penguin, this channel is run by a 23 year old named Nick, who you may know as “Tazboi” or “Theflame12″.
Also due to Club Penguin’s high popularity, twitter, skype, facebook etc accounts have been made with their name ending with “CP”, which stands for Club Penguin, and with Club Penguin icons.
Coins For Change – Coins for change is a fund-raising project in the game of Club Penguin. Users donate coins in exchange for donations to poor countries and countries that have recently had a trauma. The donors choose what department they want to donate for. These consist of kids who are sick, the environment, and kids in developing countries. In 2010, The users of Club Penguin donated $300,000 towards building safe places, $360,000 towards protecting the Earth, and $340,000 towards providing medical help. The Club Penguin community (the players) donated over 12 billion of there coins.
Club Penguin Books – Club Penguin even have books, with the island of Club Penguin as the setting. With these books, players can answer a question about the book (i.e What was the first word on page 6, on line 7?) to unlock coins for their Club Penguin account. Club Penguin also have a magazine - with a new issue every week. In this magazine, there will be comics, contests, free codes to get 500 coins, and the “VIP – Very Important Penguin” contest.

Here is the “About Club Penguin” page from the official Clubpenguin.com website :
In March 2005, the founders of Club Penguin set out to create an ad-free, virtual world where children could play games, have fun and interact. As Internet specialists and parents, they wanted Club Penguin to be a place they’d feel comfortable letting their own children and grandchildren visit.
After months of consultation, research and testing, Club Penguin opened to the public in October 2005. Thanks to great reviews from players and parents, word quickly spread. In March 2006, Club Penguin launched on Miniclip, the world’s largest online game site, and rapidly became its number one game.
In August 2007, Club Penguin joined the Walt Disney Company in a partnership designed to provide access to unprecedented resources and unique development opportunities.
Less than a year later, in April 2008, Club Penguin opened its first international office in Brighton, England, in order to provide localised player support and moderation.
